Stuckum Glue Works
May 23, 2021
Introduction
After attending the 2021 NMRA Thousand Lakes Resion convention in Bismark, North Dakota last weekend, I was inspired to start on the NMRA Achievement Program (AP). I decided to start with the Master Builder - Structures certificate and build the Stuckum Glue Works in N scale as my first project. This will be the first of six scratch-built structures. According to the requirements, "The remaining six, if not scratch built, must be super detailed with scratch built or commercial parts."
Prototype
There is no real prototype for the Stuckum Glue Works. It was from an E. L. Moore construction article in the October 1977 issue of Model Railroader. The building is a small factory that supposedly produces glue by grinding, mixing and boiling hides. It has a wooden loading dock and an attached coal-fired boiler room. The original model was build in HO scale from balsa and brick paper. I will be contructing it in N scale, primarily out of styrene, basswood, and foil.
